Charming Bird...our new Hummingbird is made entirely in hand painted wrought iron in the style of the 19th century Aesthetic Movement. This style was introduced during the 1870s and 80s, manifesting itself in the fine and decorative arts and architecture found in Britain and the USA. Characterized by the cult of the beautiful, it emphasized the sheer pleasure of form, shape and color. In painting there was a belief in the autonomy of art, the concept of Art for Art' Sake, which originated in France as a literary movement and was then introduced into Britain. In the manner of their antique predecessors, our balance toys are true originals.
